Prerequisite Courses for Physical Therapy

Requirement* CSUSB equivalent:
1 year of Biology BIOL 200, 201, and 202
1 year of General Chemistry CHEM 215 and 216
1 year of Human Anatomy and Physiology BIOL 223 and 224
1 year of Physics PHYS 121, 122, and 123 or PHYS 221, 222, and 223
1 course in speech COMM 120
1 year of English ENGL 101 and 110 or 111, expository writing (NCSI ,SSCI, or ENGL) 306
3 courses in Psychology PSY 100, 200 and 390
1 course in Microbiology BIOL 220
Volunteer Experience Each school does require some sort of volunteer service. The schools vary on their requirements, ranging from 80-200 hours.

CSU - Long Beach:

  • BIOL 223 and 224
  • CBIOL 200, 201, and 202
  • CHEM 215, 216, and 221A
  • PHYS 121, 122, and 123
  • PSYC 100
  • Statistics (MATH or PSYC)
  • Volunteer experience: 200 hours in the areas of Rehab, Geriatric, Pediatric, Acute, General Hospital
  • 3 letters of recommendation from: an instructor, employer, and a Physical Therapist
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA an GRE required

Loma Linda University:

  • BIOL 223, 224 or BIOL 200, 201, 202
  • BIOL 220
  • PHYS 121, 122, 123
  • PSYC 100
  • Social Sciences Course
  • COMM 120
  • Intro to Computers
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Volunteer experience: 80 hours with 20 hours in an inpatient setting
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • The GRE is NOT required

Western University:

  • Statistics

  • Volunteer experience: 100 hours with 20 in acute or general hospital
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • GRE is required

Admissions Test

Physical therapy schools do not have a specific test for admission, though some schools do require the GRE. Check with individual schools for their specific requirements.
